Dr. Katrinna M. Matthews, DSW, MEd, LAPSW, is an accomplished educator and experienced social work professional based in Memphis, TN. She holds a Doctorate in Social Work with a concentration in Teaching and Leadership in Higher Education from St. Catherine University/St. Thomas University, a Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Mississippi, and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Matthews is currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Social Worker in Tennessee and holds certifications in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University. Her research interests include trauma-informed practice, nontraditional students, DEI, women in leadership, health disparities, and social determinants of health.

Currently serving as a Visiting Professor at Walden University, Dr. Matthews has a distinguished career in higher education, and has served in several academic and leadership roles over the past twelve years. She is astute in online education and working with nontraditional students/adult learners. Dr. Matthews has developed and taught a wide range of courses across the social work curriculum at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. focusing on areas such as social work practice, social policy, trauma studies, and medical social work.

In addition to her academic service, Dr. Matthews has ample experience creating social work continuing education courses and extensive clinical experience, having worked as a continuing education managing editor and a nephrology social worker.

Dr. Matthews is deeply committed to community service, serving on the NASW of West TN Steering Committee, the Pearls of Service Foundation Board, and volunteering with organizations such as Dress for Success and the Memphis Food Bank. Her dedication to advancing social work education and practice is evident through her numerous peer-reviewed presentations and professional training engagements.
