Richard W. Riley College of Education and Human Sciences

Dr. Sarita Brown has been in the field of education since 2008, commencing immediately after graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Her professional career began at the Elementary level in a large, urban school district. Soon after earning her BS.Ed. in Elementary Education and spending a few years in the classroom, Sarita earned her Master's of Science in Elementary Education from Walden University, specializing in Elementary (K-6) Reading and Math. After earning her MS.Ed, Sarita continued her work in Education by participating on many school and district-level committees, especially as her state prepared for the adoption and implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Having taught in both urban and suburban school districts, Sarita's focus honed in on the equitable educational experiences of students as well as teacher practices to ensure a safe learning environment for all students. This professional experience with her colleagues, and growth as an educator, led Sarita to pursue educational leadership, in addition to beginning her doctorate studies. Sarita's professional journey blossomed to the position of Elementary Assistant Principal, and an earned Doctorate of Educational Leadership with a dissertation focus on Teachers' Perspective of Professional Development on Core Standards using a Human Capital Theoretical Perspective. Dr. Brown has been an adjunct professor at several local universities, teaching both Undergraduate and Graduate Teacher-Education courses. Moreover, Dr. Brown has been a co-presenter at two conferences, and has also spent the last two years as a Math Advisor for the Scholastic Math Magazine publication. Currently, Dr. Brown serves as a Middle School Math Specialist and as her building's Equity Advocate. Dr. Sarita Brown is thrilled to join the Walden team as a Contributing Faculty member!
